Male Plastic Surgery in Farmington Hills
Facial, body and non-surgical procedures planned around masculine features and proportions. Performed by Dr. Michelle Hardaway, a board-certified plastic surgeon with over 20 years of experience.
Planned around male anatomy
Men come in to address signs of aging, refine facial features or reduce stubborn fat. Dr. Hardaway tailors each procedure to refine natural features while preserving strong, masculine lines and proportions, and consultations take place in a private setting.
Male facelift
A male facelift aims to preserve facial structure while reducing signs of aging, with attention to a strong jawline, a defined neck angle and a natural-looking result. Incisions follow the natural contours of the face, often within the hairline and around the ears. Through them, Dr. Hardaway tightens the underlying facial muscles and repositions deeper tissues.
Results typically last 7 to 10 years, and most patients return to social activities within two to three weeks.
Eyelid surgery
Upper eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty) removes excess skin that hoods the eyes, which can also improve peripheral vision blocked by sagging tissue. Dr. Hardaway preserves the natural upper eyelid crease, which sits lower and appears heavier in men than in women. Lower eyelid surgery addresses under-eye bags and puffiness. Most men return to work within 7 to 10 days, by which time bruising and swelling have eased considerably.
Liposuction and body contouring
Liposuction targets stubborn fat that resists diet and exercise, particularly in the lower abdomen, flanks, chest and under the chin, with the aim of an athletic contour. It is an outpatient procedure under general anesthesia or local anesthesia with IV sedation. A thin cannula inserted through small incisions suctions out the fat, and someone will need to drive you home.
Most patients return to desk jobs within three to five days and resume full activity within two to three weeks.
Male tummy tuck
Men typically consider a tummy tuck for loose skin and stubborn fat after significant weight loss, or for changes to the midsection with aging. Through a low incision placed to be hidden by underwear or swimwear, Dr. Hardaway tightens separated abdominal muscles, removes excess skin and removes fat, with an emphasis on straight lines and defined musculature.
Expect two to three weeks away from work and about six weeks before strenuous activity. Results can last many years with a stable weight and healthy habits.
Male rhinoplasty
Men typically want stronger, more defined nasal contours. Rhinoplasty can address a prominent dorsal hump, a crooked bridge, a bulbous tip or disproportionate size, and may also correct functional problems such as a deviated septum or breathing difficulty. Swelling and bruising are noticeable for one to two weeks, after which most patients return to work and social activities.
Male breast reduction for gynecomastia
Gynecomastia is enlarged male breast tissue. It affects approximately 40 to 60 percent of men to varying degrees, and while it is medically benign, it can cause significant distress.
Surgery typically combines liposuction to remove excess fat with excision of glandular tissue that does not respond to liposuction alone. A compression garment is worn for several weeks. Most patients return to desk work within a week and resume full activity within three to four weeks.
Candidates are generally:
- physically healthy and close to a normal weight
- non-smokers who do not use drugs or steroids
- men whose breast development has stabilized
- men whose condition cannot be corrected by other medical treatment
- realistic about the outcome
Adolescents may benefit from surgery, though secondary procedures may be needed. Candidacy is decided at consultation.
Non-surgical treatments
- Neurotoxin injections — common areas for men are horizontal forehead lines, vertical frown lines between the eyebrows, and crow’s feet. Treatment takes 10 to 15 minutes with no downtime. Results typically develop over three to seven days and last about three to four months.
- Skin treatments — laser treatments, chemical peels and medical-grade skincare for sun damage, acne scarring and signs of aging.
More options are listed under minimally invasive treatments.
Am I a good candidate?
Good candidates are in overall good health, do not smoke, avoid medications that can interfere with surgery, and have realistic expectations about the specific areas they want to improve. Candidacy is decided at consultation.
Risks
Any procedure carries risks, including bleeding, infection, scarring and anesthesia complications. With liposuction, bruising and swelling are the most common, and blood clots and nerve damage are uncommon. Specific risks are discussed at consultation, and no outcome can be guaranteed.

Male Plastic Surgery FAQ
Common surgical procedures for men include rhinoplasty, eyelid surgery, facelift, neck lift, liposuction, tummy tuck, breast reduction and hair transplants. Popular non-surgical treatments include neurotoxin injections, fillers and laser skin resurfacing.
It depends on the procedure. Laser treatments need little to no downtime. Major surgery typically involves one to two weeks of rest followed by restricted activity for up to six weeks, and you receive detailed recovery instructions.
Cost depends on the scope of treatment. Minor procedures may range from $2,000 to $5,000, while multiple surgical procedures can cost $15,000 to $30,000. Health insurance does not cover cosmetic surgery.
Options include injectable wrinkle reducers, dermal fillers for volume, body contouring devices and laser skin tightening. These provide subtle improvements with no downtime.
Candidates want to remove excess fat and shape their contours, are in good general health, do not smoke or drink excessively, and have no conditions that impair healing. If you are losing weight, plan to be at or near your goal before surgery.
Results can last many years because the fat is removed from the body. Weight gain, aging, lifestyle and genetics can still change the result. A stable weight, a healthy diet and regular exercise help it last.
Look for a board-certified surgeon with experience in male procedures. Ask to see before-and-after photos of male patients, read reviews, and consider meeting two or three surgeons before deciding.
