What a brow lift addresses

A brow lift elevates and reshapes the brow area in the upper third of the face. It addresses a heavy or drooping brow, horizontal forehead wrinkles, frown lines between the eyebrows, and hooding over the eyes. A drooping brow can give a tired, angry or sad look that does not reflect how you feel.

Techniques

Dr. Hardaway offers both traditional and minimally invasive approaches, and which one suits you is decided at consultation. Incisions are typically hidden within or just behind the hairline, and their exact location depends on the technique.

  • Endoscopic brow lift — a minimally invasive technique using a small camera inserted through tiny incisions in the scalp, which can mean less scarring and a shorter recovery.
  • Temporal brow lift — lifts the outer portions of the eyebrows through incisions along each temple, just behind the hairline. Suited to drooping mainly at the outer brow, and can be combined with eyelid surgery.
  • Coronal brow lift — a traditional approach, less common today, with an ear-to-ear incision across the top of the head, hidden in the hair. It is sometimes recommended for extensive brow drooping or deep forehead wrinkles.

How the procedure is performed

A brow lift typically takes one to two hours under general anesthesia or local anesthesia with sedation. Dr. Hardaway elevates the skin and underlying tissues, removes or alters portions of the muscles that cause furrows and frown lines, and secures the brow in a higher position.

What surgery can improve

A brow lift can smooth forehead wrinkles, soften frown lines between the eyebrows, and lift the brow away from the upper eyelids for a more open, rested expression. Each procedure is planned to complement your natural features. Individual results vary.

Combining with other treatments

A brow lift can be combined with eyelid surgery or a facelift. Non-surgical options such as Botox, fillers and skin-tightening treatments are available for patients not ready for surgery, and several can be paired with a brow lift.

  • Botox® or Dysport® — relax the facial muscles that cause expression lines on the forehead.
  • Dermal fillers — restore lost volume in areas such as the temples or under the eyes.
  • Laser resurfacing or chemical peels — improve skin tone and texture and reduce fine lines.
  • Medical-grade skincare — a customized regimen to help maintain results.
