Why patients travel

Why Novi Patients Make the Drive to Farmington Hills

Novi sits where Grand River Avenue meets Novi Road, two of Oakland County’s busiest corridors, and the community around the Twelve Oaks Mall district, Tollgate Farm and Education Center, Walled Lake and Lakeshore Park has long expected a high standard of medical care. Patients from Greenwood Oaks, the Providence Park Medical Campus area and the I-96 corridor bring that same standard to choosing a surgeon, and for a surgical procedure, distance is rarely the deciding factor.

The drive from central Novi runs roughly 10 to 12 minutes. It ends at a private, spa-like surgical center with an onsite QUAD A accredited operating room, a dedicated Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA), and Michelle Hardaway, M.D., F.A.C.S., a board-certified surgeon who has spent over 20 years tailoring procedures to each patient’s anatomy. The aim is a refreshed version of you.

A call the evening after surgery

Dr. Hardaway personally calls patients the evening following surgery. It is not a universal practice among surgeons, and Novi-area patients often mention it when they describe their experience.

What they come for

Breast, Body and Face Procedures for Novi Patients

Dr. Hardaway performs the full range of surgical plastic surgery from a single accredited facility, and every plan starts with an assessment of your anatomy.

Silicone and saline

Breast Augmentation

Submuscular placement beneath the pectoralis muscle reduces the risk of capsular contracture, while subglandular placement may suit patients with enough tissue coverage. The choice follows an evaluation of chest wall, breast tissue, skin envelope and lifestyle.

Mastopexy

Breast Lift

One of the three breast procedures Dr. Hardaway offers Novi patients, planned after an individual evaluation of your anatomy.

Targeted fat reduction

Liposuction

Preceded by an anatomical assessment of skin elasticity, so the plan accounts for whether skin will redrape once fat is removed or whether excision is also needed.

Abdominal wall repair

Tummy Tuck

Repairs diastasis recti at the fascial level, removes redundant skin and distributes tension to minimize visible scarring. Non-surgical fat reduction cannot repair separated abdominal muscles.

Combined breast and body

Mommy Makeover

Breast and body procedures performed together. Bruising and acute swelling typically resolve in three to four weeks, while deeper healing continues for six to twelve months.

SMAS elevation

Face and Neck Lift

Repositions the deeper musculoaponeurotic layer instead of shifting surface skin, and can be combined with autologous fat grafting to restore volume using your own tissue.

Safety

Safety, Accreditation and the Operating Room

The onsite surgical facility holds QUAD A accreditation, a voluntary safety certification for outpatient surgical facilities. QUAD A conducts unannounced inspections, reviews physician credentials, evaluates anesthesia protocols and verifies emergency preparedness standards that go beyond what a standard medical office suite must maintain.

Dr. Hardaway owns and controls the facility where she operates, so staffing, equipment and protocols are set by the practice itself. Anesthesia is administered by a dedicated CRNA whose sole focus during your procedure is monitoring your physiological response and managing anesthesia depth.

Before you book

Your Consultation, Recovery and Aftercare

A paid consultation with Dr. Hardaway is the starting point: a clinical assessment of your anatomy, a candid conversation about realistic outcomes, and a treatment plan built around your goals instead of a procedure menu. All consultations are paid and appointment-based to ensure dedicated time and a personalized plan.

All procedures are self-pay and the practice does not accept insurance. At the consultation you receive a detailed, itemized treatment plan, so you have the complete picture of the investment before making any decision.

Healing continues well after the visible bruising fades. After a mommy makeover, the body keeps remodeling collagen, restoring lymphatic drainage and maturing scar tissue for six to twelve months, which is normal tissue biology. Final results are not visible at six weeks.

Questions

Frequently Asked by Novi Patients

She assesses skin elasticity in person with a pinch test and a skin turgor check, looking at the degree of laxity, age-related collagen changes and the volume of fat to be removed. After significant weight loss or multiple pregnancies, skin is often stretched past the point where it can retract, and excisional body contouring is then the more appropriate recommendation. This assessment needs an in-person paid consultation; a photo review cannot replace it.

A QUAD A accredited operating room meets standards for sterile field maintenance, emergency resuscitation equipment, anesthesia monitoring and physician credentialing that standard medical office suites are not required to meet under Michigan outpatient facility regulations. The facility is independently inspected, not self-reported, and QUAD A’s standards are publicly available for patients to review.

The scar tissue capsule that forms around every implant can thicken, contract and harden, distorting the implant’s shape and causing discomfort. Biofilm contamination during insertion, implant surface texture and placement plane are all established contributing factors. Submuscular placement puts a vascularized muscle layer between the implant and the tissue where inflammatory cells are most active, and it also allows more complete mammographic visualization.

A skin-only lift removes redundant skin at the hairline and behind the ear but leaves the deeper structural layer where it is. SMAS elevation repositions the fibromuscular layer that connects the facial muscles to the skin, restoring midface structure that has descended over time. Because the skin is then redraped over that repositioned support without being pulled taut, the result holds longer and avoids an over-tightened look.

Yes. From the Twelve Oaks Mall area or the Grand River and Novi Road corridor the drive is about 10 to 12 minutes, and from Walled Lake and Lakeshore Park it adds only a few minutes. Follow-ups are typically scheduled at one week, three weeks and three months. After a major procedure, arrange a driver for your first post-operative visit.

Scar lines are placed within natural anatomical boundaries such as the inguinal crease, the lower abdomen and the waistline, where undergarments and swimwear cover them. Closure tension is carried by deep fascial sutures instead of the skin surface, which helps prevent widened scars. For a lower body lift or abdominoplasty, Dr. Hardaway maps incision lines at consultation using your anatomy and clothing preferences as the guide.

No. All procedures are self-pay, and a consultation fee applies to your initial visit. During the consultation Dr. Hardaway provides a detailed, itemized treatment plan specific to your anatomy and goals.
