Today more and more women and men are considering a facelift to help restore their face to a more youthful appearance. No longer do you have to worry about having a “plastic” or pulled look that was one of the concerns of the facelifts of old. In fact, at Aesthetic Plastic Surgery and Laser Center our facelift surgery patients tell us that their family and friends say they look like themselves, just more youthful, refreshed and more vibrant!
Types Can Include Mini Facelift, Mid-Facelift, Deep Plane Facelift and a MACS Lift
With normal aging, the skin loses elasticity along with volume loss in the face. A facelift or rhytidectomy is a procedure that is performed to restore youthfulness to the face. The loose skin from the face is surgically removed along with tightening of the deep tissue underneath the skin which is called the SMAS.
A full facelift is more extensive with the incision extending into the temple area. A mini facelift is concentrated mainly in the cheek area and the incision does not extend into the temporal area. Not only does the skin lose elasticity with aging, but volume is also lost in the face. Fat transfer to the face is often performed in conjunction with a facelift to replace fat loss that occurs with normal aging. A neck lift is often performed in conjunction with a facelift to restore the youthfulness in the neck skin.
There are many options and types of lifts, and an evaluation by a plastic surgeon is the best way to determine which one is the best for you. Examples are a full, mini, a mid, a deep plane lift, MACS lift, and others.
The Average Age Of A Candidate Can Vary Depending Several Factors
Aging of the skin can occur at different rates. Most surgeries are performed for individuals in the 50s, 60s, or 70-year-old age groups. Genetics, excessive sun exposure can accelerate an aged appearance. Nonsurgical options yield a better result in the late 40 to mid-50-year-old age groups. There are various treatment options that use radiotherapy or lasers that can promote skin tightening.
A facelift can last 7 to 9 years or longer. Most studies were performed by visually examining the face post-surgical treatment. Various skin care products can be used to help maintain a more youthful appearance.
Facelift Surgery Can Last A Decade Or More
A facelift restores a more pleasing contour to your face and neck. A facelift can be done alone or in conjunction with other procedures such as a forehead lift, eyelid surgery, or nose reshaping. Ask Dr. Hardaway and the cosmetic specialists at Aesthetic Plastic Surgery and Laser Center about the facelift procedure that is right for you.
Are You A Candidate?
If you are a woman or man whose face and neck have started to sag you may be a good candidate. Dr. Hardaway can assess your skin’s elasticity and help you determine the appropriate procedure. Remember, facelifts have been successfully performed on patients as young as 40 years old and as old as 80 years old.
The Facelift operation elevates and redrapes the facial skin and underlying musculature to eliminate laxity and sagging. The operation can be designed to correct problems in the neck, under the jaw and/or chin and in the cheeks. It is sometimes referred to as the cheek and neck lift.
As individuals age, there is a change in the skin just as there are changes in all other parts of the body. Fatty tissue tends to decrease in volume and in density causing the skin to sag and hang loosely. There are also changes in the bony facial structure that, when combined with changes in muscular action and the effects of gravity, leads to more prominent skin folds. These changes are greatest under the chin, in the upper neck and at the skin folds near the corner of the mouth.
