Deep furrows on the forehead, frown lines over the eyes, drooping eyebrows and hood-like skin over the eyes are all conditions that can make you look older than you are or feel. Whether age or heredity causes these conditions, a forehead lift (or brow lift) can give you a more youthful, animated and alert appearance.
Forehead lifts are often performed endoscopically. Small incisions are made in the scalp, a small instrument is then inserted and with the assistance of a camera, Dr. Hardaway elevates the forehead skin and removes portions of muscle causing the problems. The skin is then tightened and secured.
The results from a brow lift surgery will last many years. However, the aging process will still continue to occur. For best results after your brow lift, continue to practice good skincare. Wear sunscreen daily, and eat a healthy diet to help protect the health of your skin. Smoking can accelerate the aging process, so for best skin health, do not smoke. Most patients are on their feet in a couple of days and back to work within two weeks. Strenuous exertion should be temporarily avoided.
What is a Brow Lift?
As we age, our skin can sag. This is an unavoidable part of the aging processes. Sagging or a heavy looking brow can cause you to look unnecessarily tired, angry, or unhappy. Certain cosmetic procedures can target signs of sagging on the face, giving you a more youthful appearance. A brow lift, also known sometimes as a forehead lift, can be a long-lasting solution for forehead sagging. This procedure is performed on both men and women. It can reduce fine lines and wrinkles across the forehead, improving the appearance of frown lines, vertical wrinkles and creases between the nose, and can raise sagging brows overall.
A brow lift is a procedure that lifts and tightens the forehead skin, which often becomes lax with normal aging. A browlift does not treat the eyelids specifically but can give the eyes a more open and brighter appearance. If you are looking for a procedure that will help tighten the entirety of the face, then a face lift could be right for you. If you are looking for a procedure to tighten the skin around the eyes specifically, an eyelid lift could be right for you. An eyelid lift can also be combined with a brow lift. Dr. Hardawayalso performs these procedures as well, at her AAAASF certified surgical suite. Dr. Hardaway also performs these procedures in a hospital setting if an overnight hospital stay is desired. During your consultation, Dr. Hardaway will help find a procedure and plan that is right for you.
How Is A Brow Lift Performed?
A brow lift is a procedure performed under general anesthesia. There are a couple types of brow lifts. An endoscopic brow lift and a temporal brow lift are most commonly used. Dr. Hardaway will help you find the one that is right for you. An endoscopic brow lift involves making short incisions close behind the hairline. A small camera is used, and the muscles and tissues of the head are lifted. Excess fat and tissue are removed as needed. A temporal brow lift is similar to an endoscopic brow lift. Incisions are made along each temple, just behind the hairline. The muscle and skin are repositioned through these incisions. This is commonly combined with other facial procedures. A coronal brow lift is a third type of brow lift, though it is not often used nowadays. Occasionally, a patient will require one to achieve their desire results. This involves one incision along the hairline or in the scalp from ear to ear. The muscles are then repositioned throughout the forehead. As with any surgery, there are some risks. Risks for most surgeries include a possibility of infection, if not taken care of properly, and scarring. These can be minimized by closely following the instructions for care before and after surgery.
How Long Is Recovery From A Brow Lift?
A brow lift is done in an outpatient surgical facility. This means that you will be allowed home after surgery is completed. After surgery, you will need to sleep with your back and head elevated for about a week. Swelling, and possible temporary bruising can appear after the surgery. It is common to feel tightness throughout the forehead during the healing process. Be cautious when manipulating your hair after the surgery, as incisions are around the hairline. Recovery time varies depending on the procedure. Follow the doctor’s instructions for your specific recovery time. You can shower when clear by the doctor, usually a couple days after surgery. Do not drive or exercise until cleared by the doctor. The amount of time before you can return to work varies on your individual healing process, and how sedentary your work is.
