As we age, areas of the face can develop wrinkles due to loss of skin elasticity. The skin can begin to lose volume. Dermal fillers are a procedure that can help correct lost volume and wrinkles. Dermal fillers are injections that are used to plump the face in various areas. They can be used to increase the size of the lips, replenish volume in the cheeks, and fill in fine lines and wrinkles.
I had a great experience. The office is very clean and up to date on the technology. Dr. Hardaway is very thorough in explaining everything to you. Even her staff is quite knowledgeable. All of Dr. Hardaway’s staff make me feel like family. They are very welcoming and personable. I trust Dr. Hardaway and her staff with my life.
The Different Types of Filler

Different brands of fillers contain different substances, such as hyaluronic acid. Dr. Hardaway will help find the fillers that are best for you. Hyaluronic acid based fillers are the most commonly chosen type of filler (Restylane, Juvaderm, Belotero). Hyaluronic acid is a substance that the body naturally produces that adds volume to the skin. Calcium hydroxylapatite (Radiesse) is another common type of filler. Many types of fillers include lidocaine in the injections, to help numb the area and increase the comfort of the procedure. Bellafill and Sculptra are other types of fillers that are commonly used.
The cost of fillers varies by the brand of filler and the amount needed for the specific procedure and patient and how long the filler lasts. Usually, they are priced by the syringe, from half a syringe and up. Anywhere from half a syringe to two syringes is typically used. The amount needed depends on the locations injected and the facial makeup of the patient. Dr. Hardaway’s staff will discuss pricing at your consultation.

Most are made for use in all parts of the face, though some are specifically made for use in certain areas. Some fillers such as Juvaderm, Voluma, or Restylane Lyft are thicker and are suggested to be used mainly to increase cheek volume. Fillers also stimulate natural collagen production.
I’ve been wanting to get my lips filled for a while. My lips were thin, and my jawline was strong, so I always used lipliner to make my lips fuller and even out my jaw/lips. The problem I had was that the liner would wear off after a while, and would leave me looking foolish.
I decided to “take the plunge”, I looked up surgeons in my area (I was told to ALWAYS go to a board certified plastic surgeon. My boss gets her Botox done by an RN, and she usually end up with complications). The receptionists were very friendly, and the office was beautiful. All of the staff members were attentive and warm. Dr. Hardaway answered all of my questions, and explained everything to my very thoroughly. She explained the entire procedure, and told me exactly what my results would look like.
She used a “dental block”, which is what they inject you with a the dentist’s office when you go to get a filling. I didn’t feel the injections whatsoever. She gave me a mirror so I could check my progress. She used about 6 pokes in my upper lip line, and 3 in the meat of my lower lip. I was very pleased with the results. The swelling has gone down, so I’m going back to get it touched up. I’m going to get 2 pokes in the meat of my upper lip, and 3 more in my lower lip. I love it so far! I can’t wait to go back! i would definitely suggest everyone in the metro Detroit area to go pay Dr. Hardaway a visit. She’s great!
Restylane
Restylane is a hyaluronic acid based dermal filler. This used to treat wrinkles and volume loss on the face and hands. This can also be injected into the lips of those over the age of 21. There are different types of Restylane brand fillers, each with an intended use on a different area of the face.
Refyne, Defyne, Restylane Silk, and Restylane Lyft are different types of Restylane that can be used in various areas of the face, depending on the location and depth of the wrinkles.
Restylane Silk is intended for use in the lips. Both the original Restylane and Restylane Silk can be used on the lips, but Restylane Silk was specifically crafted and FDA approved for use in the lips. The results will last for approximately six months.
Restylane Refyne was crafted specifically to soften the appearance of laugh lines and marionette lines on the face.
Restylane Defyne was crafted specifically for use on the nasolabial folds and to smooth out laugh lines and marionette lines on the face. Dr. Hardaway will evaluate you and suggest which filler would best meet your needs.
Slightly Crooked LipsI had a lip flip procedure done in the 90s and I have scaring on the inside area of my lips. I was never fully satisfied and seemed to have bad results. The bottom lip didn’t change and I had uneven crooked look to them when looked at closely. Lipstick hid it well. However, I have been unhappy with them for a very long time. I’m a former lifestyle model from California and look forward to being a mature model for products in the future. My previous photographer hated what I had done to myself and requested I get it corrected. I’d prefer a permanent fix. But for now it’s Temporary. Below are my after shots. Day of injections. Fairly easy procedure. I was numbed up good beforehand.
Juvederm
Juvederm is a hyaluronic acid based filler. Its main use is for the lips, cheeks, and areas around the mouth. There are several types of Juvederm, each meant for a specific area of the face.

Juvederm XC, Vollure, Juvederm Ultra, Vobella, and Volluma are different types of Juvederm filler with indications for different areas of the face. The location and severity of the lines or wrinkes determine which types of Juvederm is used. The cost can vary depending on the longevity of the product and the number of syringes required to achieve optimal results. Dr. Hardaway will evaluate you to determine which filler will give you the best results.

Bellafill

The results from the filler are instantaneous, but can last up to five years, much longer than that of other fillers. Bellafill is a collagen gel with polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) microspheres. These PMMA spheres give your own natural collagen production a base to develop on, resulting in longer lasting results.
Love Dr. Hardaway
She is awesome. I went in with no idea what needs to be done to get myself to look better. My cheeks looked droopy as I aged and didn’t know what to do to fix it. She took a good look at me and decided to fix me up. I got bellafill done and 2 years later, I still look 10 years younger. She did such a perfect job that I couldn’t have sculpted for myself. Love her bedside manners snd the staff is wonderful too.
Radiesse
Radiesse is a dermal filler that can be used on the face to smooth moderate to severe wrinkles. It can also be used to increase volume on the back of the hands, correcting volume loss that often appears due to age.
Radiesse lasts for twelve to eighteen months. The active ingredient in Radiesse has been shown to stimulate collagen production within the body, which causes it to last longer than hyaluronic acid based fillers.
Frequently Asked Questions
Temporary swelling, redness, and bruising around the injection sites are the most common side effects of dermal fillers. Slight movement of the filler is another side effect, but can be avoided by taking proper care of the injection areas. Following the doctor’s instructions closely for procedural aftercare will yield the best results.
A topical numbing cream is applied to the skin to numb the procedure area. Sometimes, numbing injections are used as well. Filler injections feel similar to a flu shot you would receive at the doctor’s office. After the procedure is complete, you will need to ice the procedure area. Over the counter pain medication such as Tylenol or Advil is recommended after the numbness from the procedure wears off if needed.
You may not be eligible for fillers if you have any skin allergies or allergies to mediations, or bleeding disorders. You may not be eligible for certain fillers if you have any allergies to the ingredients of the filler. Let Dr. Hardaway and her staff know if you have any allergies to any medications or numbing agents such as lidocaine during your consultation. If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, it is best to wait until you are done to receive any cosmetic procedures.
Alternatively, if you are looking for a non-surgical procedure, injections could be a good option for you. These are fillers, injected into or around the jawline to help enhance the contour and appearance. Dr. Hardaway performs all of these services at her office. Other nonsurgical options for removal of unwanted fatty deposits under the chin is Kybella. Multiple treatments of Kybella are needed. Dr. Hardaway will evaluate you to see if you are candidate for these treatments.
