Fat grafting to the buttocks not only gives shape to the buttocks but also contouring of other areas of the body. Fat is harvested (liposuctioned) from multiple areas of the body for the BBL | Brazilian Butt Lift. The fat is then separated from any liquefied components and then injected into the buttocks to give a fuller look to the buttocks.
There is no rejection of the fat because it is not a foreign substance. It is a natural substance of the body. Not all of the fat that is injected will survive.
Occasionally, a second procedure may be needed if the desired look is not obtained from the initial treatment. The lack of enough fat to liposuction can also limit the size of the buttock enhancement. Multiple areas of the body are liposuctioned in order to obtain enough fat to give the desired look. Remember, this is an investment in you and you deserve the best.
Buttock Lift
As we age, our buttocks gradually change shape by drooping and sagging. This can have harmful effects on one’s self image and sense of attractiveness. Although previously there was no real answer for this aging process, Dr. Hardaway offers a surgical procedure that can help an individual look and feel more positive about their body.
There are various buttock lift methods and procedures that can be performed by Dr. Hardaway and show positive success, based on your specific goals, expectations and desires. Liposuction, implants and lifts are all used to sculpt the buttocks region into a desired shape.
The Procedure
During the buttock lift procedure, excess skin is removed and the buttocks are raised to a higher position on the body with tighter skin and texture. Performed concurrently with the lift, some patients desire an augmentation that utilizes implants. This additional procedure may be performed at the same time as the buttock lift or at a later date.
Liposculpturing the body and injecting the fat into the buttocks is a very natural way to enhance the buttocks.
Buttock lift surgery is often performed on patients who have also undergone tummy tuck or liposuction procedures. This helps to remove excess fat from the body, but can sometimes leave behind loose skin that has lost its elasticity. In some cases, patients desire a fuller buttock shape which can necessitate the use of implants. Dr. Hardaway uses quality implants made of durable material that cannot rupture, spill or deflate. This procedure is called buttock augmentation.
Post BBL Surgery Procedures
After the procedure, patients are fitted with a body garment that aids in the healing process and helps the skin to adapt to its new contour. Patients are usually able to return to work about two weeks following surgery, although some swelling may be noticeable for several months. Although Dr. Hardaway makes incisions into the skin to perform the procedure, scars are usually placed so that they are hidden well beneath a swimsuit. There is an immediate difference in the shape of the buttocks that is both dramatic and noticeable.
Any form of surgery carries an amount of uncertainty and risk, and buttock lift surgery is no exception. Fortunately, when performed by a board certified plastic surgeon, the procedure is remarkably safe. Dr. Hardaway will address any concerns you may have during your personalized consultation.

BBL FAQ’s
What is a Butt Lift?
Factors such as sun damage, aging, significant weight fluctuations, pregnancy, and some genetic factors can contribute to loose or dimpled skin on the buttocks or thighs. If you are looking to correct loose skin on the buttocks and thighs, a lower body lift, or a buttock lift could be a better procedure for you. A butt lift can be performed on its own, or in combination with other procedures, such as a full body lift. This procedure can help lift loose skin on the butt, and can be combined with fat grafting, or fat transfer, depending on the needs of the patient. It is not intended to add volume to the butt, or removed excess fat. Liposuction can be done on other parts of the body in conjunction with this procedure, to improve the overall contour of the body. Dr. Hardaway performs all of these services at her AAAASF certified surgical suite.
What are Buttock Implants?
Buttock implants are not a BBL. Butt implants are silicone implants, inserted surgically into the buttock tissue to change or improve the appearance of the butt. However, buttock implants have their own risks. There is a higher risk of infection and capsular contraction with implants than with a BBL. Implants can have the possibility of looking less natural than a BBL or butt augmentation.
How Much Does a BBL in Michigan Cost?
The cost of the surgery varies depending on the needs and wants of each specific patient. Dr. Hardaway will help you find a procedure and payment plan that suits your needs.
How long do results from a BBL last?
The results from the surgery can last for many years. Weight fluctuations after the surgery can affect the results, as the body can gain or lose fat cells during weight changes. Surgery aftercare is an important factor in this as well. Be sure to wear the surgical garments, and use a BBL pillow for the prescribed time after your surgery.
How is a BBL Performed?
The procedure is performed under general anesthesia. Fat is removed from the multiple areas of the body with excess fat, most commonly the abdomen and back, using liposuction. The fat is then inserted into the buttocks. Contouring of the back with liposuction is also important to give a more aesthetic appearance.
How Long is Recovery From a BBL?
The recovery time varies depending on the patient. You can shower beginning 48 hours after surgery. You must wear the surgical garment for at least three to six weeks after surgery. Since the surgery is minimally invasive, most patients do not have major pain. After surgery, you will have to keep pressure off of the butt for three to six weeks. You will have to sleep on your stomach or side, and use a BBL pillow when seated to optimize fat take. In order for the fat to survive, it must attach to a blood supply. Any fat that does not obtain an adequate blood supply will not survive.
What are the risks of a BBL?
As with any surgery, there are some risks to a Brazilian butt lift surgery. A BBL is a minimally invasive procedure. There have been reports of fat embolism, which has similar symptoms as blood clots in the lungs. The American Society of Plastic Surgery has set up an advisory panel to further study these incidents. The ASPS has also established guidelines for fat transfer to the buttocks to help avoid these incidents. There are some aesthetic risks to the procedure, such as asymmetry or abnormalities in appearance of the butt.
Who is a good candidate for a BBL surgery?
You are a good candidate for a BBL surgery if you:
• Have good skin tone on the hips and buttocks
• Have adequate fat storage in the body, to allow movement of fat to the buttocks
• Do not have any serious medical conditions
• Do not have any conditions that will slow or impair the healing process
• Have realistic goals for surgery. Dr. Hardaway works with each patient to ensure that the procedure is tailored to their specific needs.
