Lip Blushing: The Semi-Permanent Alternative To Tattooing

Lip blushing is becoming extremely popular at the present time. Lip blushing is not as permanent as tattooing. The pigment is injected in the most superficial layer of the lip skin whereas in tattooing, the pigment is injected in the dermis which is the deeper layer of the skin. With either treatment, a professional should perform the procedure. It is important to use aseptic technique which means cleaning the skin with an antiseptic and using sterile needles to avoid post procedure infections.

In Tattooing The Pigment is Injected Into The Dermis

The process is performed by putting a topical anesthetic on the skin, this will decrease the discomfort during the procedure. It is important to choose the right pigment for the lip blushing. Since the pigment is placed in the more superficial areas of the lip skin, the pigment does not last as long as permanent tattooing. Without using the proper technique infection can occur after the procedure. Instructions after the procedure should be followed such as using a topical moisturizer while the healing process is occurring.

Lip Blushing is Typically Performed by Aestheticians

If the wrong color is chosen, it is difficult to remove the color, therefore, it is important to choose the right professional to perform the procedure. Lip blushing is performed by some aestheticians as compared to a traditional tattoo artist. Look at before and after pictures to see if the aesthetician is the right person for you. After the procedure, the skin may shed, some scabs may form. Post treatment there will be some swelling. Once the area is fully healed, the exact color of the blushing will be visualized. Avoiding non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medication such as Motrin or aspirin before the procedure to decrease bleeding and bruising during the procedure. If you have a history of cold sores, pretreatment with Valtrex can be beneficial to avoid a breakout.

Lip fillers, for example, hyaluronic acid fillers such as Juvéderm and Restylane, are used to make the lips look fuller. Lip fillers can last for about a year. They do not change the color of the lips. Lip blushing can subtly change the color of the lips and can last for about two years. It is important to choose the right treatment for your desired outcome.
